Circulate greenhouse air through underground loop pipes and it returns at almost 55, with a small fan as the only thing drawing power. If you would rather build your own frames and benches than buy them, that same appetite is what makes a full woodworking plan library pay for itself.
Water: a simple collection system feeding inexpensive tanks, which they say covers all their irrigation and can be filtered for drinking. Power: a hybrid setup with the batteries, controller, cables and inverter specified, and the vendor notes you can stay grid connected and sell the excess back instead. Storage and outbuildings are the unglamorous half of every homestead, which is why a proper set of shed plans tends to follow this book, and waste handling is the other half nobody photographs, the reason septic tank upkeep lands on the same list. Food: preservation for eggs, vegetables, roots, fruits and meats, so you can live without refrigeration the way it was done before refrigeration existed.
Who Should Skip It
If you want a switch that flips your house off grid this weekend, skip it. This is a book of projects, and projects take hands, weekends and materials. The vendor headlines it with the claim that there is a reason they are trying to ban this book, which is marketing, not evidence, and you should read it that way. What is genuinely on offer is 40 years of trial and error written down so you do not have to repeat the errors. If your real blocker is money rather than dirt, that is a different problem, and a money mindset program is the closer fit.
Start today because you have already paid for another full year of somebody else's water, somebody else's power and somebody else's tomatoes, and that is the one bill nobody ever refunds.
